Deeply associated with Holland, windmills have frequently illustrated Collegiate publications—as drawings that appear from time to time in the Dutchman yearbook, and on a previous incarnation of the nameplate of the Journal. Windmills are also associated with sustainability and renewal, two qualities that are especially meaningful for our nearly 400-year-old school.

the committee sought to find a way to give a windmill the appearance of a Dutchman. The result is an anthropomorphized, somewhat whimsical windmill that evokes Collegiate’s history: Collegiate’s founding year of 1628 is emblazoned on the windmill’s hat-like roof, and, at the bottom, the windmill’s entrance refers to the iconic Red Doors from the 77th Street building.
